As a part of my thesis project of repurposing political figures as celebrity figures, I chose Justin Trudeau as the political branding figure behind a candy line. I wanted to use a political figure most aligned to youth culture, and someone with the charisma to pull it off. In order to tie in the name of the product with the name of the politician, I decided on “Tru-Blo Pops”.
I wanted to maintain the same nostalgic feeling behind the Spice Girls branding blitz of the late 1990s, so I kept the same style and dated graphics. I wanted to create a package design that put emphasis on a political figure to sell the contents. I wanted to replace the celebrity context, but this time, using political recognition to sell an actual product. I also wanted the product to be linked to youth culture, and getting children interested in politics at a younger age instead of celebrity figures.
